Terms of Use
The fine print, kept plain.
These terms apply when you download or use Luma on iPhone, iPad or Mac. Please read them. By using Luma, you agree to them.

1. The agreement
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Rootlex Technologies Private Limited (“we”, “us”), the developer of Luma. They are not an agreement with Apple. Our Privacy Policy explains how Luma handles information and is part of these Terms.
If you use Luma on behalf of an organisation, you agree to these Terms for that organisation.
2. Your license
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Luma on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. Luma may also be used by other accounts in your Family Sharing group as those rules allow.
You may not rent, lease, sell, redistribute or sublicense Luma, or copy, decompile, reverse engineer or modify it, except where the law allows this despite these Terms.
3. Your content and deletions
Your photos, videos and files remain yours. Luma works with them on your device and does not upload them to us. See the Privacy Policy.
Luma suggests what to clean up, but you decide what is deleted. Nothing is deleted without your confirmation. Photo deletions are confirmed again by iOS and go to the Photos app’s Recently Deleted. Files you remove in Luma go to Luma’s Recently Deleted for 30 days unless you empty it sooner. After that, they can’t be recovered.
Video compression keeps the original until the smaller copy has been saved, and then deletes it only after you confirm. Similar-photo suggestions are automated and may be wrong, so review them before you delete.
The Private Vault and encrypted backups are protected with keys on your device and with passwords you choose. We can’t recover a lost password or Vault content. Keep your own backups of anything important.
4. Price
Luma is free. Every feature is included. There are no in-app purchases, subscriptions or advertisements in this version.
If we introduce paid features in a future version, we’ll update these Terms first, show the price in the app before you buy, and never charge you without your confirmation through the App Store. Features you already use won’t stop working because of such a change without notice in the app.
5. Acceptable use
Don’t use Luma to break the law or anyone’s rights, and don’t:
- try to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to our services;
- use Luma to store or share content you have no right to;
- interfere with other people’s use of Luma.
6. Changes to Luma
We update Luma to add, improve or remove features, and we may temporarily switch a feature off to fix a problem. Some features depend on your device, your iOS version or Apple services. For example, asking your documents requires a device that supports Apple Intelligence.
7. Ownership
Luma, its design and its name belong to Rootlex Technologies Private Limited and its licensors. These Terms don’t give you any rights to our trademarks. Open-source components in Luma, such as ZIPFoundation, are licensed under their own terms.
8. Disclaimer
To the extent the law allows, Luma is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise that Luma will be error-free, or that storage estimates and suggestions will always be accurate.
Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can’t be limited by contract.
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we won’t be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of Luma. This includes content you chose to delete. Because Luma is free, our total liability for any claim is limited to US$50.
Some places don’t allow these limits. Where they don’t, they apply only as far as the law permits. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
10. Apple-specific terms
Because you get Luma from the App Store, you and we also agree to the following:
- These Terms are between you and Rootlex Technologies Private Limited, not Apple. Rootlex Technologies Private Limited, not Apple, is solely responsible for Luma and its content.
- The license in section 2 is limited to using Luma on Apple-branded products you own or control, as the App Store Usage Rules allow.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Luma.
- If Luma fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Luma. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses caused by a failure to conform to a warranty are our responsibility, to the extent these Terms don’t disclaim them.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to Luma or your possession and use of it. That includes product liability claims, claims that Luma fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
- If a third party claims that Luma or your possession and use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or designated by the U.S. Government as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when you use Luma.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right, and is deemed to have accepted the right, to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
Questions, complaints or claims about Luma go to us. Our contact details are in section 14.
11. Ending these terms
You can stop using Luma at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or end your license if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms. Sections 3 and 7 to 12 continue to apply after the Terms end.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring claims in your local courts.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. We’ll change the date at the top, and tell you in the app about changes that matter. If you keep using Luma after a change applies, you accept the updated Terms.
